Nominated as one of Coindesk’s Most Influential People in Blockchain in 2017, Andrew "Drew" Hinkes is a partner with K&L Gates, working as part of its Digital Assets, Blockchain and Cryptocurrency practice where he advises on strategic, regulatory, licensing, and transactional matters. Drew was dual appointed as an Adjunct Professor by the NYU Stern Business School and the NYU School of Law, where he co-teaches "Digital Currency, Blockchains, and the Future of the Financial Services Industry," to JD/MBA students and teaches “Governance of Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Systems” to MS in Cybersecurity Risk and Strategy students. Since 2019, Drew has been involved in law reform to usher in commercial law that embraces digital assets, serving as an observer for Uniform Law Commission/American Law Institute, Uniform Commercial Code and Emerging Technologies Digital Assets Working Group, and the UNIDROIT Working Group on Digital Assets and Private Law focusing on secured transactions. Mr. Hinkes is the co-author of a widely used academic text, “Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology: US Law and Regulation,” and publishes academically about legal issues related to digital assets and decentralization technology.
